“Capital alone doesn’t build lasting companies. Skills do,” says Liisi Org, CEO of Latitude59.
In a startup ecosystem as fast-moving and ambitious as Africa’s, real progress isn’t just about who gets funded. It’s about giving everyone who touches the ecosystem, from first-time founders to hub managers, investors, and policymakers, the practical skills and knowledge to level up.
In 2026, Latitude59xKenya moves beyond high-level theory. We’re building a hands-on learning experience around shared knowledge and peer-driven execution. Whether it’s equipping founders to use AI tools, demystifying venture capital, or helping public sector leaders build policies that actually support innovation, we’re creating a space where capability meets opportunity. The goal is simple: upskill the entire startup network so the whole system grows stronger together.
Topics you can expect
This year’s program is built around six upskilling themes:
- From curiosity to capability: the founder’s practical learning journey, covering the real mechanics of product validation, unit economics, early hiring, and navigating failure.
- AI as your co-founder and teacher: how African founders use AI tools to validate ideas, write code, test hypotheses, understand customers, and automate operations, plus which skills are becoming essential and which are becoming obsolete.
- Getting funded: demystifying term sheets, capital structures, and investor expectations to help founders raise aligned capital efficiently.
- Building stronger ecosystems: operational capacity building for incubators, accelerators, and ecosystem support organisations across urban and regional hubs.
- Policy that works: structured dialogues between public sector leaders and tech builders to address regulatory bottlenecks and reform policy.
- Sector deep-dives: focused expertise in climate and green tech, healthtech, agritech and food systems, edtech, and fintech and digital infrastructure.
Stages and spaces
The conference has one main stage, one pitching stage, and four masterclass rooms, plus interactive networking spaces.
Bold Stage
The Bold Stage is the home of macro trends, keynotes, policy frameworks, and high-level dialogues. It brings together cross-sector insights to align European and African agencies on green innovation, and looks at lessons from successful startup ecosystems in Africa. To help bridge funding gaps, it also explores practical ways to unlock diaspora capital for African tech ventures.
The day builds to its headline moment, the Latitude59 Pitch Competition Final, where the top African startups compete live for prize support and a spot at Latitude59 Tallinn 2027.
Pitching stage
The pitching stage highlights early-stage startups and emerging talent from across Kenya. It’s where you’ll discover the founders and ideas that may define the next generation of global companies. Startups from accelerators, ecosystem partners, and regional programs pitch their solutions to investors, media, and the wider startup community.
It’s also home to our popular Reverse Pitching Session, where investors take the stage to represent their funds and answer questions. Expect candid conversations on venture capital, fundraising, sales, leadership, and communication that show the “kitchen side” of the industry, combining street-level insights from practitioners with a quant-like focus on data.
This stage builds up to the Latitude59 Pitch Competition Final on the Bold Stage.
Masterclasses
Throughout the day, four dedicated rooms host hands-on masterclasses, practical workshops, and clinics on what it really takes to build a thriving startup community, from strengthening local hubs and smart policy to helping founders adopt AI, sharpen their pitch, and build their MVPs.
There are also dedicated sessions to help early-stage founders team up with established companies to launch joint projects, and interactive clinics led by industry partners who are ready to share their expertise.
Interactive floor and networking spaces
- Startup demo area: startups can apply for a spot in the demo area to showcase live product or service prototypes directly to passing investors, executives, and potential clients.
- Partner exhibition area: permanent, branded spaces for key initiative partners.
- Matchmaking area and app: the Latitude59 event app opens two weeks before the conference, so attendees arrive with 1:1 meetings already scheduled, held in a dedicated, facilitated meeting space.
Before and after the main day
The main conference is one intensive day. Around it, a series of gatherings is designed for high-trust connections.
- Partner-led side events: community founder breakfasts, investor gatherings, sector dinners, and meetups hosted across Nairobi before and around the main conference day.
- Investor Day (invite only) on December 3: a half-day gathering of 200 top African and European investors, development finance institutions (DFIs), and select policymakers for curated roundtables.
- Official afterparty: from 20:00, to unwind after the main conference.
- VIP reception (invite only): an evening networking reception bringing together Latitude59 partners and speakers, delegates, and government representatives.
