Educated and trained in Silicon Valley, Sonia lived in California for 20 years. After her Bachelor of Science & MBA degrees, she worked for Sun Microsystems/Oracle in US. Sonia relocated to Bangladesh and recently resigned from Microsoft where she was the Managing Director for Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Laos for 5 years. Prior to Microsoft, Sonia served as the Country Director for Dell, Director Business Development for South East Asia in Microsoft and Chief Operating Officer for Aamra Technologies.
Currently Sonia is the Co- Founder and Chairman of Digiland (a blockchain company for digitising land records),Vice Chair of United Nations Technology Bank for LDCs, Governing Board Member of Unesco’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace, CoFounder of D Money (Fin-tech), Digiland (Blockchain), Syntec (Health Tech) and of Bangladesh Women in Technology. Sonia is also an Independent Board Director for IPDC Bank.
Sonia is a board member in BRAC University; Advisor in both the Schools of Business & Computer Science in North South University & School of Business in Independent University Bangladesh.
Sonia has been recognized as and SDG pioneer in 2017 by UN and won the 2016 Bill Gates Founders award in Microsoft.
